There is the potential risk, however in my experience they don’t chew it if there’s enough space.
It will depend on the species you choose and you could just attach extra nests when the colony grows. I think the habisphere would be suited to a Neoponera spp.
After a long time without YTong nests in the market, I've started producing CNC milled YTong nests. LC Ants will formally open in September. At the moment I am still prototyping and playing around with ideas, but expect big things to come... http://i.imgur.com/EeENoPE.jpg http://i.imgur.com/wZW7RHY....
Make sure there is a water source, ants can go a long time without food, but will die quickly without water.

Solenopsis geminata are a fast growing, aggressive species. I have some colonies which will be available for sale at the end of July, after the quarantine period.
Messor cephalotes are like gold dust. Messor arenarius is probably the closest you'll get :D.
They are easy to keep sure, but you can get Pogonomyrmex a lot more readily than Messor cephalotes.
For interesting species why not Myrmecia, Neoponera or Carebara?
This species is extremely rare, Queens of Messor cephalotes won't be found for less than 500€ each. Plus they are not great in shipping from what I've heard so it's a bit of a gamble. The main European stores don't stock M. cephalotes. A small colony was 850€ a couple of years back from a German sel...
Let's get back on topic about the Ant Nectar and Formisazine please...
As interesting as this formulation is, the next thing you know, we will be told to replace our drinking water with this stuff and be charged extra for it! All joking aside, I'd buy this if I was a beginner because it looks appealing and does eliminate the annoyance of changing test tubes, but as I'v...
Looking good. I'd say white would look best for taking photos of these. You've probably seen my journal and the Ytong nest I used. This species requires no hydration of their nest. Of course provide water in the outworld, but they are good in dry conditions.
Glad the recovery went well. I cannot stress enough how important it is to have a pesticide free plant. Good thing you took action quickly.
They look to be doing very well and the brood in all stages is a very good sign of productivity. Expected no less from the Queen.

Yeah I'm on it. Just having a wave of spam recently, I'm trying to keep up with deleting the accounts.
