I have an ro machine which cleanses all my water, drinking and for my pets. It's very cheap to run. But for small amounts I gues just regular bottled water

They will be deep in the soil by now and you won't see much of them until they're either hungry or have lots more workers aha

What type of food was it? If it was a wet food, they may have done it to soak up excess moisture and stop mould. Mine do it all the time

The queens will most likely be mated.
Did you catch workers or not? If you didn't then you may want to consider collecting the workers as it's extremely unlikely they will re-found colonies

I imported Carebara lots of times last year, and after 2 weeks from China to England they were always fine

Sounds good, they're really easy to keep once the conditions are right, and they eat a lot too.

Had the exact same experience 2 days ago, forgot to fill the feeder and came back from a quick brake to all the workers really slow and falling over. Quickly watered them and all was fine within 2 hours. Sorry for your losses

Although there are hundreds of posibilities, perhaps seperating the workers meant that they couldn't clean the queen and parasite got on her? You could've gave the ants to someone on the forum, releasing them could be very damaging. Solenopsis are known to inbreed, and if these ants produce alates then they would be a mega force. If I were you I would attempt to dig them up and if they have too big a colony pour boiling water and ant pois...

If you send me a PM I can give you information of a company I know who sets up leaf cutting ant setups, but they're not cheap!
Harpegnathos venator are very easy to keep, just give them some test tubes and a heatmat, and regularly keep the outworld moist and feed them live foods
