The larger worker did not make it unfortunately. However we are up to about 25 workers now, with plenty of larvae and eggs. So ticking over nicely and cannot wait for the next growth spurt in the colony.

I ask Antkit.uk to get me this species in. Not one of the greatest in colours, the workers have a subtle Brown colour to them, but when they alert each other when they get excited or there is danger by tapping their abdomens onto a surface, it is pretty cool. http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z173/...
That is pretty cool.
Hello Nile, I do not place any of my ants or queens in complete darkness. I suppose it would be best to suggest doing though to cut down on the stress, however my room is pretty dim and I like to view my ants.
I think most people would suggest darkness to stop the Queen stressing out.
Firstly, nice looking setup, secondly I can only go by my own experiences and say I personally would never start with the big 3 European species of Camponotus, C. cruentatus, C. herculeanus and C. ligniperdus, which you usually find for sale. Whilst big Queens and lovely looking workers, oh my word ...
If shes still running around shes using up her resources, give her a little long to get herself back to the hole she dugged and if not, I guess put her in a test tube with a bit of soil and let her chill in there.
Its all stress for her at the moment. Add some sugar water to boost her up. Is her tank in a quiet, dark place?... Have you kept disturbing her and checking on her?
