Hello Osterytteren, The test tube should really be placed into a container/tank and the end of the test tube should be unplugged to allow the workers to roam and hunt/gather food to bring back to the larva/other workers and the Queen. Your colony of ants was given a continual source of sugar-water f...

Since Luke bought me lovely coffee that was cold. I wont hold it against him.
C. dolendus has a lovely Green sheen to them.
I thought this might be of interest in comparing different species of ants next to a species most of us know very well. Sometimes seeing a photo of an ant can be difficult to judge.... here goes. http://i191.photobucket.com/albums/z173/jon2thefish/Camp%20japonicus%20Vs%20Lasius%20niger.jpg Camponotu...
Depending on species and number of workers/larva I tend to feed my ants every other day some fresh protein. However you will get a feel for how much your individual colony requires.
Jon.

Hello Astro,
A great read that was. As you already know, what a cracking ant species you have there and the difference in sizes puts them in my top 10 list of ants. I would really like to see a photo of your setup. Keep posting, Jon.
What a brilliant lay-out. Nice setups fella.
We now have Messor barbarus normal and with Red head with workers.
Camponotus nicobarensis has been mention and i think is a great looking species, you just have to look at the journal I made. C. habereri, is the much improved colouration on the C. nicobarensis and we have quite a few of those. C. singularis has been mentioned, what a lovely looking ant, to see a m...
We do not have any Carebara diversa at the moment, in all honesty they are not what i would refer to as a large species of ant, yes eventually they make create some rather large workers, but boy do they create an awful lot of tiny workers.
Very easy Robj..... ok so 'very' is a big word lol, At Antkit I keep over 20 colonies of this species and are no trouble.
Too many to count. The colour on them and the way they swarm out to feed now is brilliant.
lol, that is brilliant.
Hello Adam,
Can you give us more detail of the setup. Is the test tube plugged up?
No promises Rob, if I get a chance I will try and take a pic of your colony. To ease your pain of waiting.
I have heard that you need 20-50 workers and a lar[…]
