Hi all,
I'm writing up a journal for the above species. I have a few questions and would love if anyone has some answers or help.

I ordered them from AntHouse.es and I gotta say I got alot more than I bargained for! I ordered a colony of 30 workers 1 queen and got way over 100 for just 11euro. Great company to order from. I was waiting for a very long time for some to come in stock at Antkit but none never showed.
I would like to say a special thanks to 'veektoor' and 'Michael' and others for giving me the link to them as I would never have found them otherwise.

General info
Feeding: fruit flies, cricket, woodlouse, egg yolk, Niger seeds, honey, sugar water,
Feeding habits: they will eat almost any insects but are very specific with what seed(s) or sugar they chose to eat. I have only found 1 seed they like and they avoid all others. They will only eat sugar/honey very rarely and have not touched fruit from what I have seen.

This was when I first received them a few months back. As soon as I removed the cotton from the test tube they went crazy. They feasted on some honey and a cricket and within minutes started to transfer into their new home. I haven't had a colony move so quick, it was perfect.
As you can see there is far more than 30, some have already moved out of the test tube too.

They've been storing alot of seeds and dead insects here. I added it for the dry storage area for seeds. Think it's turned into a dumping spot. They move a hell of alot of stuff about all the time for such a small species.

Sorry it's out of focus. It's great watching them all work together to carry large things. My other species doesn't work like these. I'll post a few videos later of them carrying massive insects and seeds.

Forgot to say pic heavy lol. Hope it was all ok and didn't bore too much.

So I have 2 questions if anyone can help me please?

1) in the picture just above the video you can see I have an alate! Can anyone give me any advice on this? Such as what I should do? will it harm my current queen? I am quite new and have little knowledge of this species. Any links to websites with good information would be appreciated too.

2) This species isn't too keen on sugar water or honey water or just plain honey. I can't seem to find a sugar they like? Any advice would be great.
When I first received them they feasted on some plain honey and all their gasters were filled, especially the major soldiers. It might have been from where they were stored in the test tube and didn't have much food and the transport from another country might have made them hungry. Now they aren't so keen. I've tried different fruits and they never touch it. My other species love almost anything sweet, greedy feckers lol.

Thanks for your time and looking. :-)

Alates are harmless. Once they realise they won't fly they'll drop their wings and just become big workers.
2) if they're not eating it they don't want any

Love this species of ant! Wish they had more in my state but unfortunately I don't even know if they live here. I just love their media and major worker so much!

Get them! Lol. Really fun species, so glad I found a colony to buy :-) not growing out of control for me.....although I have seen many eggs and larvae. They are really small so alot can fit in a small space. I would assume even a huge colony wouldn't need the biggest of formicarium. Either way get them hahaa.

So it was all crazy tonight when I checked them. There must have been half the colony out at the exit of the nest all swarming. There was at least 50-100 workers and quite a few soldiers out. I rarely see the soldiers emerge unless a big insect needs dragging, even then only a couple come to help. I've seen an increase of soldiers being produced recently too. It's hard to say how many workers are produced in comparison but I don't see a great increase of population for this many soldiers.
Anyhows as I looked I saw the alate in the outworld. That's what all the commotion was all about. They sent half the tribe out with it lol. The video doesn't show how much more came out. So I have a couple of questions guys....

1) Why is the alates head so small? It is REALLY small but has long antennae.
2) if it doesn't fly off and stays with the colony to help the queen, how long can it survive?

If the head is smaller than your queen then it's a male alate. They have no purpose post nuptial flight so will die naturally or be killed
